Michelle Obama wowed an audience at the Democratic National Convention Tuesday night in Chicago that was captivated by her speech.

Just as captivating to many was her outfit — a navy, belted, sleeveless jacket with a crisscross silhouette and matching slacks.

The custom design is from luxury brand Monse and brought a "futuristic flair to the second day of the Democratic National Convention," Women's Wear Daily said.

What is Monse?

Monse is a fashion label based in New York City and founded by Oscar de la Renta creative directors Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia.

The brand's website says it offers women's ready-to-wear collections including unisex styles. The collections "are inspired by menswear" and are "for modern women who seek to stand out from the crowd without compromising her effortless demeanor."

This isn't the first time Obama has worn designs from Kim and Garcia. She has often worn designs from Oscar de la Renta.

According to Women's Wear Daily, Obama wore the brand multiple times as first lady, including at a 90th birthday party for Queen Elizabeth II. She also wore the brand at the U.S. Open in 2023.

Who is Michelle Obama's stylist?

Obama's outfit was styled by her longtime stylist Meredith Koop, tweeted Vanessa Friedman, fashion director and chief fashion critic of the New York Times.

Koop started advising Obama's fashion decisions in 2010 and they've been together ever since.

In 2018, Friedman reported that "there's an appetite for the nuanced way Mrs. Obama used fashion both as a tool and a celebration." Credit goes to Koop, she said.

“You have to celebrate fashion but also be aware of the message people are going to take away,” Koop told Friedman about dressing Obama. “Fashion can bolster communications in the best-case scenario, or be a silent partner, or actually distract.”
