Stewart posed for photographer Ruven Afanador at the Casa de Campo Resort & Villas in the Dominican Republic and becomes the oldest cover model in the magazine’s history. The mother, grandmother and best-selling author told SI Swimsuit that although she never really thinks about age, she did recognize the opportunity as a historic moment.
“When I heard that I was going to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, I thought, Oh, that’s pretty good, I’m going to be the oldest person I think ever on a cover of Sports Illustrated,” Stewart said. “And I don’t think about age very much, but I thought that this is kind of historic.”
Many of Stewart’s famous friendships span decades, and the entrepreneur isn’t concerned with age when it comes to creating lasting bonds.
“I have friends who are 90. I have friends who are 20,” she said. “That is a very, very good way to look at life because age is not the determining factor in terms of friendship, or in terms of success. But [rather] what people do, how people think, how people are—that’s what’s important.”
