Rihanna walked the “Smurfs” blue carpet at the movie’s Los Angeles premiere on Sunday with her and A$AP Rocky’s sons RZA and Riot in tow.
It was quite the fashion affair for the trio.
Rihanna, who is pregnant with her and A$AP’s third child, wore a Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello dress while the little ones were dressed in custom Dior by Jonathan Anderson. The famous family, who arrived about 90 minutes after the screening actually ended, was greeted by Smurf characters.
“This is not just for the kids,” Rihanna, who stars as Smurfette in the movie, told me. “I’m going to be a little selfish on this one because I’m a superfan of the Smurfs. I’ve always been a fan. I’m really excited for a new generation of Smurfs fans.”
We joked about A$AP being in a sequel, with RiRi declaring he could play “Freestyle Smurf” or “Fashion Smurf.”
“There’s already a Papa Smurf but he could play Papa Smurf, too,” Rihanna added.
Asked when she’ll be releasing much-anticipated new music, the nine-time Grammy winner laughed, pointed to herself and said, “Uh-oh Smurf.”
Hannah Waddingham adopted a very gravelly voice to play an evil wizard in the movie. “It absolutely mangled my voice senseless,” she said. “It was my own fault for offering it up.”
But it was worth it because, Waddingham said, her daughter is about to turn 11. “I’m not going to lie,” the “Ted Lasso” star said, “I’m a very cool mum right now.”
While a second movie hasn’t been greenlit yet, Miller may already be plotting, saying: “I would love if Meryl Streep were a Smurf.”
John Goodman plays Papa Smurf. “I stay in my closet, painted myself blue and took off my clothes and just ripened,” the “Connors” star cracked about preparing for the work.
Other cast members on the carpet included Amy Sedaris. Nick Offerman, Billie Lourd, Alex Winter and JP Karliak.
Xolo Maridueña plays Brainy Smurf. “I did so much overpreparation in brainy fashion,” he said. “I jumped through like 30 hoops to try to come up with this voice, and then I got there on the first day and they were like, ‘No, I think your voice is good enough, Xolo. You sound pretty nerdy already, bro.’”
