Malia and Sasha ObamaSasha Obama, the youngest daughter of Barack and Michelle Obama, has given her parents yet another reason to be proud. The 21-year-old officially became a college graduate on Friday. With her family in attendance, Sasha gracefully walked across the stage at the University of Southern California to receive her degree in sociology. Sasha, who attended the University of Michigan as a freshman in 2019, later transferred to USC. Michelle revealed last year that Sasha and her older sister Malia have been living together in Los Angeles, Essence reported.

They carried a burden of making sure they weren’t messy,” Michelle said on The Light Podcast, which she launched in March according to Essence. “It wouldn’t have been laughed off. It wouldn’t have been [dismissed as] just ‘oh it’s youthful’ whatever. It would have been some bigger statement about the soul of Black folks…That weight is exhausting.” According to The Los Angeles Times, there was a massive cheer from the crowd when Sasha heard her name called at Friday’s graduation ceremony. Kim Demu, one of the attendees at the graduation, was in shock as she sat near the Obamas. “I knew [Sasha Obama] transferred from [University of] Michigan to here, but I had no idea she was graduating in this class with my niece,” Demu told the Los Angeles Times. “Very exciting!” Sasha, who was 7 years old when her father became president in 2009, graduated from a Washington D.C. high school, then attended the University of Michigan. On Friday, she walked with her peers graduating from USC’s Dornsife College of Letters.
