As she tries to get out of her conservatorship, friends of former talk show host Wendy Williams spoke to New York magazine about what she's going through. The cover story featured a recap of the rumors and allegations of what Williams is facing and commentary from those around her.

Fans had speculated about whether Williams' health issues, including Graves' disease and lymphedema, played a role in her guardianship (later revealed to have been triggered by her son's monetary mismanagement of her account). The guardianship was upheld as doctors have claimed Williams has frontotemporal dementia and aphasia, but Williams reportedly has doubts about the tests' validity and still wants out of her conservatorship.

Most people close to the ex-radio host believe Williams shouldn't have such a restricted life, but it's not clear what would be best for her at this point, especially since messages shared by Williams and then her court-appointed guardian Sabrina Morrisey are very different. Some close to Williams alleged to New York that Morrisey failed in her duty as a guardian, with a few claiming neglect and cruelty. Williams' family members have claimed Morrisey has kept them from her for months at a time (and won't even tell them where she is sometimes), neglecting to make sure Williams is safe, which Morrisey denied to New York.
